Category Pages

Vacation rentals with certain characteristics represent a good chunk of the overall search volume in the vacation rental space. We created a number of top-level landing pages to rank for these terms, including: pet friendly vacation rentals, vacation rentals with pools, ski rentals, beach rentals, and cabin rentals.

Category pages were built as a template that would allow us to quickly launch new pages targeted at keyword sets as the content was ready.

In addition to SEO, these pages were used in Paid Media and in seasonal marketing campaigns as destinations for targeted advertisements.

Searches from a category page would pre-apply the relevant search filter. For example, if you searched for Asheville from the pet friendly page, you’d see the pets filter applied to your search:

The category page included a list of featured markets, selected by the Marketing team as targets for that category. A set of rentals were pulled onto the page for each chosen market:

The page also included a section of topical evergreen content for SEO:

In addition to category pages’ use as a landing page, they were also used to add seasonal callouts on other parts of the site, as seen here on the homepage:
